* When using cameras with resolutions above 5MP, it is suggested to use smaller channel groups to prevent overloading IOPS.
* If all cameras share the same resolution and encoding settings, disk groups will not affect the total available recording time. However, if you do not balance the channels evenly by count and resolution, discrepancies may occur between the groups.

===Step by Step Instructions===

1. Start by logging in to the recorder's WebUI. Select the Storage tab at the top, and then Disk Group on the left. Set the values for each drive to split them up. For example, you can put Drive A in Group 1 and Drive B in Group 2. You can also add multiple drives, such as A+B in Group 1 and C+D in Group 2. The drive count does not have to be equal between groups, but it is recommended for the recording time to be consistent across all channels. Be sure to hit Apply when finished.

2. Now that you have created the Groups, click the Channel Group tab at the top. This is where you will assign camera channels to the groups. In a perfect world we would split this as evenly as possible, meaning all Groups have an even balance of incoming data. If all of your cameras use the same encode settings, this is easy, but when using a wide range of camera models with varying resolutions, frame rates, and bit rates, it can be challenging. 3. You can use the Copy To button to quickly apply changes to multiple channels at once instead of using the drop down for every channel manually.

4. Once you have applied the changes, you are all set. Note that there are separate settings for each stream, as well as snapshots. Typically only Main Stream is recorded and is all you need to adjust, but in situation where you are recording sub streams and/or snapshots, be sure to include those in your grouping as well.

No drive formatting is required, and data already recorded will still be accessible.
