How To Set Up People Counting

Description

People Counting can track human traffic by region or line crossing. It will keep a running total of targets entering and exiting an area or crossing a specific threshold and display it on the cameras overlay.

Prerequisites

  • Luminys IPC with People Counting Capability
  • Luminys NVR

Steps

1. Log in to your recorder and select the Camera menu at the top. Select AI Event on the left, and then Intelligent Mode. Select which channel your People Counting capable camera is assigned to, and enable the People Counting feature. Click Apply when finished.

2. Now that the People Counting feature has been turned on, we must enable it. To do so, click People Counting from the AI Event menu on the left, and then the channel you are configuring from the dropdown at the top. Click the + button to create a new Rule.

3. People Counting has 2 types. The default People Counting will keep a running tally of people crossing a specific threshold (tripwire). It will count people entering or exiting based on the position of the line. You can also set up a region, which will count people within a set area.

4. Select the type you wish to use (in this example we will use the default People Counting). Start by setting the region, which is the area a person is enter or exiting. Click Draw Region and draw the area (the person must leave the visible region before they are counted).

5. Next, click on Draw Rule to set the "tripwire" the person must cross to be counted. Be mindful of the direction arrow which dictates if a target is an entry or an exit.

Once set, you can also configure thresholds which will trigger an event based on the number of entries or exits, and any other Triggers. Note that the People Counting Alarm threshold dictates when an event is created in the playback timeline or when a Trigger occurs, but does not create a searchable event video like iMD or VCA.

Click Apply when finished.

6. Now in your Live View, you will see your region and People Counting line, with a running total for entry and exit. The region and tripwire will flash red (like VCA rules) when the threshold counts have been hit, creating your event and triggering any other Triggers you've set.

7. You can also search People Counting data under Search > Smart Report > People Counting. Set your search parameters / filters, and click Search.

8. Since we are only searching data, you will not see video playback of events here. As mentioned previously, recordings are only created as event flags in Playback. In here, you will see a graphical representation of the total entry and exit counts by the hour. When you export your data, selecting the Picture file type will export an image identical to the graph you see in this screenshot. Choosing CSV will export the raw data with each individual event and its corresponding timestamp.
