How to Use Human Body Search via LumiSearch in LumiViewer

Description

This article will cover how to search for human targets using LumiSearch via LumiViewer software.

Prerequisites

  • LumiViewer installed on a computer
  • LumiSearch or LumiSearch+ capable cameras and NVR (R5/R6 Series)

Step by Step Instructions

1. To start off you will want to make sure you have everything set up on the hardware side. Let’s log into the NVR and make sure everything is correct. The first step once logged into the NVR is to go to the camera section, then on the left expand the AI event and choose intelligent mode. Once in intelligent mode we will make sure the Recorder is set up for LumiSearch, so click on Recorder AI mode and make sure LumiSearch mode is enabled.

3. The next step we will cover is specific to LumiSearch+ devices, if you are using a LumiSearch device you can skip this step, but if the device is listed as LumiSearch+ you will need to do this step. For LumiSearch+ devices there is an extra step which is you need to enable the metadata setting. From the camera menu, go to the AI Event settings again and then you will see a Metadata setting option, click on that. If the camera is not compatible you will get a message indicating that. Once on the metadata setting page choose the camera channel you want to enable it on. There isn’t much on this page, all you need to do is click on the (+) button on the box to the left, when you click it once it will add human metadata and if you click it a second time it will add motor vehicle metadata. If you need both add both otherwise just add the one you need. Make sure to save when done.

4. Next we will enable LumiSearch on a second camera, this camera is LumiSearch not the + version so we only need to enable the intelligent mode.

5. Now that we have LumiSearch enabled on the NVR and two cameras we can move onto how we use this in LumiViewer. Go ahead and open LumiViewer, if you haven’t added your device yet go ahead and do that. Once the device is added and online you may need to let the recorder run awhile before you have any results as we just enabled LumiSearch and just added it to LumiViewer. Once you have let your recorder capture people we can go ahead and use the function. This can be done from live view or it can be done through playback. For this document we are using playback but the process is the same. In playback go ahead and find footage where there is a person in the view, once you have your target go ahead and pause. Once you pause you will click the magnifying glass that has a target in it as highlighted in the image.

6. After clicking the magnifying glass it will bring up another smaller window of the same view.

7. Next what you want to do is use your mouse to draw a target box around the person you want to search for. To do this click and hold and it will give you a target box that you drag around the target. The box can be moved around using the circle to the top left of the box, and you can resize the box using the circle in the top right. Once you have it placed around your target, click the magnifying glass in the bottom right of the box.

8. After clicking the magnifying glass, you will choose the option for “Human Body Image Search.”

9. This will then bring you over to the Data Retrieval section, it will automatically choose the Human Body Search option and it will add the image you highlighted from playback. Now you will choose your search parameters, choose the date and time you want to search, from the device list, choose the device you want to search on, it will does not show individual channels it will show the NVR. Choose the similarity % and then click search.

10. After clicking search, LumiViewer will search the devices on that NVR for any LumiSearch data from the cameras and then will display the results like you see in the image. The images will display how similar they are to the target.

11. You can also click on the results so you can do playback of the event if you wish, see the image of the event or export the event. You can also select multiple events using the little check box in the bottom right of the event image and then export multiple at a time.

12. This last step covers how to search if you have an image on your computer of a target that you want to use to search for that person. The first step is to go to Data Retrieval from the main page of LumiViewer.

13. After going to Data Retrieval, you will want to select Human Body Search on the left side. After choosing Human Body Search, click on the drop down for Query Type and choose the picture option.

14. Now you will click on the black box where it indicates to upload images. After clicking that your windows explorer will open so you can navigate and find your photo that you want to use. Once you select your photo, click open.

15. Now the image you selected will be shown in the box. From here, select your search options such as your date and time, the device you want to search on, as well as similarity %. Once you have set your search options go ahead and click search.
