How to wire the alarm outputs on the back of a recorder

Description

This tutorial will go over how to wire up the alarm outputs on the back of the NVR.

Requirements

  • External Power Source for Alarm Output Device
  • Alarm Output Device
  • NVR that has alarm outputs

Step by Step Instructions

1. Today we will be going over how to use the alarm outputs on the back of the NVR as well as how to wire it up. For the sake of this document we will be using an electronic buzzer to demonstrate the alarm out function. Please read the product guide for this sensor to determine which lead is the power positive (ALARM OUT C1) and which lead is the Negative/Ground ⏚ in the event that the alarm is unidirectional and not bidirectional.

2. You will also want to refer to the power requirements and specifications in order to make sure you are using the proper power supply unit for this device. Also Identify your power supply leads PSU+ and PSU- or Negative/Ground ⏚. PSU+ will go to ALARM OUT NO1.

3. Next, let’s take a look at the back of the NVR and its alarm outputs. This NVR has 1 alarm output and the pin out we are focused on are the top left 3 pins which are NO1, C1 and Ground.

4. Next lets look at the first stage of the wiring. As you can see in the picture, we have the positive lead from the PSU connected into pin1 which would be the NO1 pin, we then have the positive lead from the buzzer going into pin2 which is your C1 pin. The negative leads from both the PSU and buzzer are currently not connected.

5. In this next picture we have all of the leads connected. In the picture you can see we now have the negative/ground leads into the 3rd pin which is also the ground pin on the NVR.

6. Now that we have all the leads wired up into the connector, we can connect it up to the NVR outputs and give it a test. As you can see in the picture, we have it connected and we have triggered the alarm out to confirm that it is functioning.

7. Next I will show how to manually trigger the alarm out for testing. To do this, log into the NVR either from local monitor or from WebUI. This guide is using WebUI so wording may be slightly different. Once logged in we will go to System -> Alarm Settings -> Alarm Output. Once there, you will put the radial dot inside manual and then click apply. As soon as you click apply the output relay will trigger and if everything is wired correctly, it should start to go off. To stop it, put the radial dot back to automatic and click apply. Automatic is the default setting where it will trigger automatically depending on if you have any rules set up to trigger the alarm out. This concludes the basic usage of the Alarm Output.
